Are You an "Achiever"?

Do you know what your natural talents are – those nuances that make you unique? Do you consider yourself to be a natural “achiever”?

The #1 Wall Street Journal Bestseller book, StrengthsFinder 2.0, defines 34 “themes” that represent common classifications of talents and describes people with “Achiever” as one of their top five talent themes as people who have a “constant need for achievement”.  The author, Tom Rath, who currently leads Gallup’s workplace consulting business, tells us that core personality traits and talents are relatively stable throughout adulthood.

If you are one of those people with a strong “Achiever” theme, “You have an internal fire burning inside you. It pushes you to do more, to achieve more…. Your relentless need for achievement … brings you the energy you need to work long hours without burning out….It is the power supply that causes you to set the pace and define the levels of productivity for your workgroup.”

Gallup Consulting is a Platinum sponsor of the Business Women Rising – Leadership Vistas program, our educational peer-mentoring program for high potential and high achieving leaders.  Because we believe a strong sense of self-awareness is important for all leaders, our Leadership Vistas members take the Gallup StrengthsFinder 2.0 assessment as an integral part of the program.

In a recent review of our member’s StrengthsFinders “Personalized Strengths Insights” reports we discovered an amazing, but perhaps not surprising finding: over 80% of our Leadership Vistas members who took the assessment and who are currently in mid-level management, entry-level management and/or professional (individual contributor) positions have “Achiever” as a top talent theme.

Gallup tells us that managers who focus on strengths drive engagement.  Gallup also tells us that what makes people with a strong “Achiever” theme stand out is that:

  • They exhibit a strong work ethic
  • Chances are good that they feel much more favorable about themselves and life in general when they are functioning at an optimal level
  • Being “number one” or named the best usually motivates them to do even more and better work.

It’s interesting to note that while we specifically designed the Leadership Vistas program to accelerate advancement for high potential and high achieving leaders, we now KNOW, as a result of their StrengthFinders 2.0 assessments, our Leadership Vistas members are naturally high achievers who strive to be the best they can be.

If you are an “Achiever” looking to accelerate your advancement, or if you know someone who is, our Leadership Vistas program may be the perfect way to drive even more engagement, excellence and success.
